As many players started in the Burning Crusade expansion ill start from here also is this is where my meandering interest in tanking began to cement itself as something i would come to greatly enjoy.
The tank is seen as many things:
# The leader of the group
# The player who controls the pace of the instance
# Generally someone who has the knowledge and the patience to guide you through the instance / raid.
Now believe me when i say no tank starts out like this. I couldn't tell you how many times i have been told to never tank again, delete my account or simply enough just removed from the group. We all had to start somewhere, but why start at all if all you get is abuse?
For you it maybe that you have seen a tank do a sloppy job and you believe you can do it better, even if you are just looking for more of a leadership role and more of a challenge. These are more than enough reasons to begin. Myself it was all control, being able to go toe to toe with the biggest ugliest creatures blizzard can throw at me and twist and manipulate them into any situation i desire was too fun to pass up.
Great tanking comes with experience and confidence, So if you are new to this a good idea is to record you mistakes so at a later date you can go over them and this will give you a better understanding on how to improve better than any random video guide that hammers through the instance / encounter.
